Profile of Ujwal Ghimire
Ujwal Ghimire is one of the versatile film personalities of Nepal. He holds masters degree in Mass Communication and Journalism as academic qualification. He was awarded the most prestigious best award in Gaijatra Festival for one act satirical comedy presentation on stage in 1984 organized by Royal Nepal Academy. He joined audio-visual as a profession after he completed a training course from World View International Foundation. He made some of the documentary films associated with the foreign producers. Ujeni and Asha were two of them. He also made number of television commercials and telefilms. He directed and produced first Nepali telefilm in history, which was telecasted from Nepal Television on the day of its first day regular broadcast. He was honored for this historical breakthrough later in 2015 from Nepal Television. He joined feature film as an actor later in 1984. He achieved a Best Actor award in negative character role for his first performance in the movie Santan. Ujwal Ghimire is one of the prominent and leading film directors we have in our country at this point of time. After working in couple of national and international films as an actor, he then shifted his attention to working behind the camera as a captain. He produced and directed numbers of feature length movies including the blockbuster Gothalo, Jindagani, Chodigaye Paap Lagla, Kismat, Andaj and Wada no 6. He achieved three national awards as best director of the years respectively for Kismat in 2008, CGPL in 2010 and Andaj in 2011 organized by Film Development Board, government of Nepal. He also won Best Director Nefta award for his film Andaj and Wada no chha as a best director of the year 2010 and 2016. He was awarded a Jury Award for Direction in CG Kamana Film Award in 2016 as well. Mr. Ghimire was also given the responsibility of judging other’s work in couple of film awards and Beauty pageant including the first National Film Award 2005. Ujwal Ghimire is also experienced in mentoring and teaching to newcomers in film industry. He initiated as an instructor at the College of Film Studies, Kathmandu the first film college of Nepal. He introduced the names like Aryan Sigdel, Dilip Raymajhi, Sabin Shrestha and many others in his movies and mentored them. All of they have been delivering the best through their movies and putting their effort to develop film industry in Nepal.
