Prem Upadhyaya is a well known DOP and director of Nepal. He started off as a apprentice under very famous fashion photographer in London after doing his schooling from Hailey Bury and imperial service collage, UK. After working in London he returned to Nepal and then got admitted at the FTII (Film and TV Institute of India) in Pune in 1968 and graduated in cinematography in 1971. From then, he worked in Mumbai as a DOP (Director of Photography) and shot many commercials and documentaries, which have also won awards from the government of India. He has shot the first and legendary commercial for liril soap, which was a game changer in advertising in India.
Presently he works as a line producer for foreign films, which are shot in Nepal and India. As a line producer he has done over hundred films from all around the world. He has been awarded as the “Father of Commercial Films” by the advertising association of Nepal.
Mahat is an enthusiastic and talented media professional who has attained different training program from Asia – Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Associate Press Television Network, ICCPR Nepal and other various organization. He is involved in various media field and has shared his experience and innovation in this field. He has studied Motion Picture Photography from Oscar International College with Master’s Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. He is a cinematographer at Nepal Television (NTV) and is also working in the arena of News Reporting, Live coverage, Telefilm, Documentary, Short film, Music Video, Television Studio Broadcasting, International Reporting and VVIP visit.
